Leslie was waiting with a blanket in hand when Ross and Andy came through the doors with Darren Young. She wrapped him and helped the men get him to the bed in B cell, where a bed was made and waiting. They covered the boy, making him as comfortable as possible and watched as he fell quickly into a deep sleep.

The sheriff made a phone call, first to Mrs. Young and then to Mrs. White. Darren’s mother was already on her way to the station as Ross was explaining the events briefly to Billy’s Mom. He asked if both she and her husband could meet them at the station as soon as possible. “I’ll fill you in when you get here.” Ross said in what he hoped was a not-too-somber voice.

Within ten minutes, Ross was seated with Billy’s Mom and Dad, Bill and Joanne White, and Darren’s mother, Diane Young. In the briefing room, behind closed doors, Ross and Andy told the parents the story they had heard from Darren in the patrol car. He also told them the situation that had occurred a few days earlier involving Deputy Adams, leaving out the details of the condition in which the bull was found.

After answering the many questions asked by the Whites and Mrs. Young, to the best of his ability, Ross had Leslie show Bill and Joanne out. “I’ll be in touch if we have any word on Billy tonight and will let you know the search party details first thing in the morning,” Ross said, “We’ll do all we can to bring Billy back to you.”

Darren was still on the cot in the station cell, he was asleep but tossing back and forth as evading a pursuer, mumbling incoherently every few minutes. “I think maybe he should stay here tonight, Mrs. Young.” Ross suggested. “We can make you comfortable here beside him and we can all keep an eye on him in case he awakes confused or disoriented.”

Diane Young agreed. Leslie brought in a chair and set it next to Darren’s bed and found a pillow and blanket. “If there’s anything else I can get you, please let me know.” Leslie offered. “I’m sure he’ll feel better in the morning.”
